Weeknotes #37

This week I trained the Museum of London team on Google Analytics 4 and the Digital Culture Network got together in Birmingham.

On Monday I met with Kim Van Russelt (Digital Editor) and Harriet Warnock-smith (CRM and Digital Marketing Manager) at Museum of London. The site London Wall site is now closed to the public as they prepare for the relocation to West Smithfield.

We spent the morning working through their Google Analytics 4 requirements, where data currently exists for reporting, and what configuration is needed to track more. It was a follow on from the online workshops I ran earlier this year and I’m looking forward to seeing how things develop across the team.

The Cuerdale Hoard at the British Museum 😍

Whilst in London I popped into the British Museum to see the amazing Cuerdale Hoard, which was found just up the river from where I live in Preston.

It’s the largest Viking hoard every discovered in the British Isles, and includes 8,600 pieces, mostly silver including hacksliver, ingots and coins from as far afield as Byzantium and the Islamic world. It dates to 905 and was discovered in 1840 by workmen in Cuerdale, Lancashire repairing an embankment of the River Ribble.

As a new detectorist, it was fascinating. The earliest thing I’ve found so far is a George III silver six pence from 1820. I’d love to find something of this era.

Birmingham Away Day

On Tuesday the Digital Culture Network team got together in Birmingham for two days to review how the Digital Culture Awards went, discuss Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the team, and generally catch up. We also met with John White (Chief Operating Officer) at The Space where we found out the plans for the organisation as a new Investment Principles Support Organisation (IPSO) and how we can signpost and collaborate in the future.

In the afternoon we visited Ikon Gallery where Lucy Mountfield (Assistant Curator) guided us through their current exhibition, Horror in the Modernist Block. Thanks Lucy!

Next week I’m only working three days and have meetings booked in with Nottingham Contemporary, Natural Theatre Company, Julie’s Bicycle, Southbank Centre, Highly Sprung and Site Galley.
